Orgy of Noise

while i'm doing ridiculous music, i'd like to introduce you to orgy of noise, which i collect is primarily the project of Bill T. Miller. a pic of his setup is on the left; a barrage of circuit bent (electronically twisted) children's toys wired to a patch bay, a sampler/FX processor (the koass pad), and a mixer. free mp3's here, i think my favorite is either "noise is musick" or "missing battery cover". "doo da doo da"'s funny too.

Ted Stevens

(I'm just gonna lump this all into one post) in case you're living in a cave, another rapid-fire internet meme has sprung up arond Ted Stevens' comments on internet and net neutraility; this has inspired 2 techno remixes (amoung other videos and over a hundred YTMND pages [in case you're drunk and bored (like me)]), heckeling from the daily show, quite a bit of blog activity, and a facebook group, among much more i'm sure. (Ted has firmly aligned himself against net neutraility, and i think everyone who's opposed to this concept stands to profit from it directly.)

Marilyn Manson covers Danny Elfman

there are those amoung us who remember a day when Marilyn Manson would do beatles covers, make oblique jokes, and sing in strange voices about snowmen. this video harkens to those days. sounds like a little help from tim skold too, but there's no credits, and i don't feel like putting effort into finding that out right now. just in time for halloween.

Resonant frequencies*

So the idea here is most objects have "resonant frequencies"; notes that travel through them a whole number of times (no fractions/decimals). This is a video of a speaker with a metal plate above it and sand on top of that; the sand bounces off the parts of the plate that vibrate, leaving patterns created by the sound. cool, huh? this originally was done with a violin bow against the side of the plate (before speakers) and started the study of acoustics. :)

Haiku

my two favorite haiku:
my stupid math book thinks it knows all the answers only the odd ones - Mike Vroman driving, in the rain not watching where i'm going making up haiku - Jody Stenitzer
and something from haikucircus.com:

BBC presents: The Last Dalek

A Dr. Who based video game. The premise is you're an out-of-control 6 foot saltshaker who needs to run around collecting access codes and weapons upgrades, killing anyone in your way. not sure to what end or why, but it's fun, and a suprisingly large game. EXTERMINATE!
