not sure if that's an instruction or not, but google earth is the single coolest thing that has ever happened to maps; the morbid quanity of information this app puts at anybody's fintertips is amazing. it's a program that access countless sataliete photos from dozens (if not hundreds) of providers and using video game rendering engine technology, stitches them together near-seamlessly into a globe of the earth that you can filp around at will and zoom in to the point where one can identify different cars on highways. not to mention it also access statistical and criminal data for US countys, roads, borders, hotels, etc.
the most impressive part is the feeling of scope it gives.
