Evening Service - "The Bible Says"

in the spirit of my 'After Eden', this christian rock band feels the need to repeatedly remind you of one very specific, obscure bible verse. wanna watch?

Funny thing, Leviticus 18:22 can be interpreted a variety of ways. Plus, it goes on to condemn disrespecting one's parents (punishable by death), sex with a woman while she's on her period, shaving one's beard, eating pigs, planting two kinds of seed next to one another, wearing a garment made out of two different kinds of cloth, eating shellfish... oh, and it encourages slavery.
What struck me most about this video was how gay everyone looks. As in, really fuckin' gay. Almost to the point that I thought they were kidding. Did you go to the website to which they link (lovegodsway.org)? They have a list of "gay bands" that is hilarious. Oh, and Oscar Wilde was not a "reformed homosexual," he was bisexual his entire life. How dare they!

yeah, they all looked REALLY gay. at first i thought it was a "But I'm A Cheerleader" type joke, but i think the're being serious and using this to draw a fine line. either that, or they have WAY too much free time and need a better hobby.

thanks for the pointer to the verse they were referencing, i was never sure where the anti-gay crusaders got thier dogma from. that is pretty obtuse, though.
too bad most self-proclaimed christians rarely read the bible they speak so highly of (or only read choice chunks); i think most would find leviticus a well-intended (and a bit outdated) guide to ettiquete/sanitation, rather than hate fodder.

besides, whatever happened to 'god is love'?

I thought they were kidding at first, too. Especially when they were talking about getting into heaven and used the line "there's no back door" and said "get down on your knees" ... but I think they just didn't realize the innuendo. Yeah, they are dead serious. This is hatespeech of the worst kind - the irritating, ignorant, thoughtless, self-hating kind.
And 'God is love' doesn't show up until the First Letter of John. Leviticus was written over 1200 years earlier, when Yahweh was still mired in that old war-god mentality. Funny how Jesus was supposed to have ushered in the 'New Covenant' - yet I've noticed that a great number of fundamentalist evangelical Christians seem to forget that when citing Leviticus to bash homosexuality.
